An FMCG client faced overwhelming workloads within their R&D department and believed hiring two additional staff members was the only solution. However, budget constraints made this option difficult to justify. They needed a way to optimise existing resources without sacrificing performance.

Our Approach

We audited processes, eliminated inefficiencies, and restructured workflows using Lean methodologies and BI integration

We began with a comprehensive analysis of their SOPs, IT systems, and workflows, producing a detailed process map. By speaking with team members, we identified inefficiencies such as duplicated spreadsheets, misplaced files, and staff spending significant time on low-value tasks. Using Lean Methodologies and the Theory of Constraints, we discovered key bottlenecks, including the regulatory team being burdened with tasks outside their core expertise.

Next, we re-designed their process to follow a cyclical Kaizen model, enabling iterative, automated improvements. This ensured processes could adapt and evolve continuously. Finally, we proposed integrating the R&D process into a BI system, linking it with financial data to provide leadership with detailed, automated reports on project costs and other critical metrics.
